Staying in Gothenburg

Finding somewhere to stay in Gothenburg is relatively easy, with accommodation ranging from large international hotels and stylish boutique properties to hostels, campsites and peaceful hotels in the archipelago. Gothenburg has also developed a strong reputation for sustainable tourism, and a very high proportion of the city’s hotel rooms are environmentally certified.

For first-time visitors, the city centre is usually the most convenient place to stay. The area around Gothenburg Central Station, Brunnsparken and the main shopping streets puts you within easy reach of restaurants, shops, museums and public transport. Staying here is particularly practical if you are arriving by train, as many central hotels are only a few minutes’ walk from the station.

The central location also makes sightseeing straightforward. From here, you can walk towards the harbour and the Gothenburg Opera, explore the shopping streets around Nordstan and Kungsgatan, or follow the canals towards Kungsportsplatsen and the grand boulevard known as Avenyn.
